Wilson says "SURPRISE" maybe coming at end of training camp

With a plethora of defensemen on the roster, the Maple Leafs might be forced to make a move as the season inches closer, reports the National Post.

"There's probably going to be a shock or two at the end of training camp as far as who's not going to be here," Leafs head coach Ron Wilson recently told reporters.

Tomas Kaberle, Pavel Kubina, Jeff Finger and Jonas Frogren are likely to lock up the top-four spots on the blueline.

Mike Van Ryn, acquired from the Florida Panthers earlier this month for Bryan McCabe, is expected to assume the fifth defensive spot, leaving Carlo Colaiacovo, Anton Stralman, Ian White, Staffan Kronwall and Luke Schenn battling it out for one final regular slot.

The Leafs can send Schenn back to the WHL, which appears to be the most likely option unless he knocks the Leafs' socks off.

"If he blows us away, he'll be here," Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher told the Post. "If he deserves to be here, he'll be here. But we're not going to put him on the team because he's our first pick."
